Windows Live Messenger, formally known has MSN Messenger (provided by Microsoft), has to be one of my favourite messaging clients. I am on it almost 24/7 and there are a few nifty features and tools that make the experience a whole lot better. In this article i'm going to show you some interesting MSN tools, hacks, tips and tricks that will make your Windows Live Messenger experience much more fun.

2. A-Patch

A-Patch was designed to make patching Messenger easier than ever before. Not only are there tonnes of options to choose from, but now there's a Preview which lets you see the changes as you select them! Remove the components that you don't want from your Live Messenger.

3. StuffPlug

StuffPlug is a plug-in for Microsofts MSN Live Messenger that delivers extended features.


Feature List:

Actiontext: With the introduction of Windows Live Messenger 8 a new message type was introduced too. You can now show messages in the conversation window just like the messenger notes! You can scare and amaze your friends with any message, and they won't even know it was you!

Block Talking: Have you ever gotten sick and tired of a contact constantly talking to you, but you couldn't block him or her because you needed to talk to him every now and then? With StuffPlug's blocktalk, you can block them and still be able to talk to them when you need them!

Boost character limit: Messenger itself has a limit of a maximum of 400 characters per message. Using Messenger Plus! you can boost that to about 1500. But now you can boost it even further to a whopping 4000 characters with StuffPlug!
Chat-only name: The chat-only name is a feature that allows your name in conversations to be different from that in the contact-list. For example your name could be "Tom - Hurrah, My name is in the StuffPlug FAQ", while in conversations it would only show "Tom".

Content stealer: The content stealer allows you to steal virtually anything from your contacts. You can get their display pictures (even the dynamic ones), custom emoticons, and winks. It allows you to either save them for later use, or add them to your own collection with the click of a button!

Fake-invites: Invite your friends to fake activities. Just as you could invite your friends to a game of tic-tact-toe, bejeweled, or minesweeper, you can now invite them for any imaginary activity. Always a good trick to surpise your contacts!

Friendlyname Editor: Getting tired of having to visit the options dialog everytime you want to change your name on Messenger? Turn on StuffPlug's FriendlyName editor and change your friendlyname the same way as you would change your personal status message!

Status Conversation Icons: With Status Icons the icon of each conversation will reflect the status of the contact you're talking with. This allows for quick spotting or multiple-user conversations, or offline contacts.

4. Nudge Mania

NudgeMania is a tool that allows sending of unlimited Messenger Nudges. The so called MSN Nudge Hack can be used to send your contacts a Nudge Flood which they can't avoid (unless they have disabled Nudges).


Windows Live Messenger restricts with a waiting time the number of nudges you can send, because this can be very annoying.

NudgeMania allows you to bypass that limitation, allowing you to send infinite nudges without waiting.

It's also able to remove the Buzz limit when chatting with Yahoo Messenger contacts.

Nudge Mania does not modify in any way your Messenger, registry, etc.

NudgeMania currently supports these languages: English, Spanish, French, Turkish and Portuguese.

Once you install the program, the Nudge sending in your Windows Live Messenger will have no limit. A small smiley in your system tray will show you that the program is active.

5. Fenix MSN

Fenix MSN is one of the best applications (extensions) for MSN Messenger, MSN Messenger compatible with 6.x/7.x and options as interesting as flood (of states and ventanitas), real state, creating nicks, drawings ASCII (over 60), emoticons (over 60), avatars (picture to the IM, more than 300), guess what thoughts, community messenger, chat built, and so on.


In addition, Fenix MSN includes three practices utilities so you can create your custom avatars, daily tips, creative writing giant, creator of emoticons, Meegan free, Fenix MSN nuke (to prevent a contact or access to your messenger hotmail), and new option of 'write rare', which allows normal text to transform the binary code, plus many other features and curiosities, it would be impossible to list completely here.

The program doesn't support English language, it's Spanish.

8. MessenPass

MessenPass can only be used to recover the passwords for the current logged-on user on your local computer, and it only works if you chose the remember your password. You cannot use this utility for grabbing the passwords of other users.

9. MSN Auto Away

MSN Auto Away application was designed to enable you to set your self automaticlly away after an certain idle time. Also you can set an away message that will be auto-replyed to users while you are away.


The unique feature in this program is that you have 3 identifiers you can use...these are: %artist% %song% and %idletime% . %artist% and %song% are the artist and the song you are currently playing in winamp 2.x and %idletime% is the time your computer didn't received any input by keyboard or mouse.

10. MSN Freezers Collection

I have colected a few msn freezers and lockers which are able to freeze any msn account and it will keep your victim from signin in on msn/wlm.
It's very simple, just put the e-mail of the person's msn you want to freeze, once you run it their account will be frozen.
You can also unfreeze the person, so i think that it's good to have cause if someone freeze your account you can unfreeze yourself.

1. Make sure the person you are going to freeze is OFFLINE! Otherwise it just wont work.
2. If you freeze while he/she is online it will only start working after the person goes offline.
3. He/she will NOT be able to get back online afterwards. ;-)
4. The account will be frozen until you unfreeze it or until you close the program.
5. There is NO freezer that can freeze an msn account forever.

Note: Some antivirus softwares detect these tools as viruses (SPR/Tool.Freezer.6, Downloader.Banload.AQHE, Riskware.Tool.Freezer.6, etc.), although the applications are perfectly safe and does not pose a threat to your system. These are hacking tools and it's normaly to be detected as viruses. This is called a "false positive". It happens when antivirus software wrongly classifies an innocuous (inoffensive) file as a virus. The incorrect detection may be due to heuristics or to an incorrect virus signature in a database.
